Trigger an alarm
Pick one failure. Monitoring raises a critical alarm, a P1 ticket opens and Amira calls the tier-1 on-call engineer from the escalation matrix. One failure at a time — reset the network before the next one.
Mobile site failure
Site 412, Dubai Marina, goes off-air: all three sectors down, about 1,800 subscribers without service. Neighbour sites 413 and 398 take extra load.
- Answer the call and say “Acknowledged.”
- Ask “What is the impact?”
- Authorise a fix: “Adjust the neighbour tilt” (interim coverage) or “Restart the BBU” (restores the site).
Database outage
The primary OSS provisioning database stops answering: SIM activation, number porting and order provisioning fail. The hot standby is ready.
- Answer and say “Acknowledged.”
- Ask “Is the standby healthy?”
- Authorise: “Fail over to the standby.”
Fibre cut
Loss of signal on the Dubai–Abu Dhabi backbone, span 07 — a break at 23.4 km. The protection path via Al Ain is idle.
- Tip: don’t answer the first call — watch the 60-second timeout, the retry and the escalation to tier 2.
- Answer as tier 2 and say “Acknowledged.”
- Authorise: “Switch to the protection path.”
Tier 1 — on-call engineer
Tier 2 — senior NOC lead
Auto-caller
How the escalation runs
A critical alarm opens a P1 ticket and Amira calls tier 1. If the call is not answered within the acknowledgement window she ends it and tries once more, then calls tier 2 with the same rules. If nobody acknowledges, the ticket is flagged for the duty team. On the call the engineer can ask what is affected, hear live values and authorise the prepared fix; Amira reads the action back before she triggers it. UAE mobile and landline numbers only.
Ask Amira
The NOC assistant. She reads the network, the tickets and the runbooks, and can run a prepared fix after you confirm it. You can also call her — the number is shown in “How to test”.
Results
The last ten incidents with the time to acknowledge and the time to restore service, measured from the alarm.
How to test
This portal runs the complete chain: a network alarm, an automatic ticket, a phone call to the on-call engineer, acknowledgement, a fix authorised by voice and the result written back. Everything is operated from here.
1 · Set up the escalation matrix (once)
- Open Escalation matrix.
- Enter name and UAE mobile number for tier 1 and tier 2, tick Call this person.
- Tick Call the on-call tiers when a critical alarm arrives and press Save.
2 · Trigger an alarm
- Open Trigger an alarm and pick one of the three failures.
- Switch to Overview: the element turns red, the alarm and the P1 ticket appear, and within seconds the tier-1 phone rings.
3 · On the call
- Say “Acknowledged” — the escalation stops and the ticket shows who acknowledged.
- Ask anything: “What is the impact?”, “What else is affected?”, “What can we do?”
- Authorise the fix. Amira reads it back — confirm with “Yes, go ahead.” After about 15 seconds she reports the result.
4 · Test the timeout and the escalation
Do not answer the tier-1 call. After 60 seconds Amira ends it and calls tier 1 once more, then tier 2. If nobody acknowledges, the ticket is flagged Escalation exhausted.
5 · Health check without an incident
Use Ask Amira, or call the NOC line +971 4 520 7481 and ask “Is anything down on the network?”
6 · See the results
Results lists every incident with time to acknowledge and time to restore. Press Reset network before the next test.
